Terms of Use

These are the basic terms for using Fluid Shakespeare's web reader and mobile app. This is a placeholder for the prototype — final terms will be reviewed by counsel before public launch.

1. The text

The original Shakespeare text used on Fluid Shakespeare is in the public domain. You are free to read it, copy it, quote it, and use it in your own work without restriction.

The modern English translations on this site are original works created by Knovella. They are made available for personal reading and study under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial license. You may quote them with attribution. Commercial republication requires written permission — write to hello@knovella.com.

2. The audio (in-app)

Audio narration in the Fluid Shakespeare app is sourced from LibriVox and remains in the public domain. The synchronization data — the timing that makes words highlight in step with the audio — is original work by Knovella, available only through the app.

3. The app

The Fluid Shakespeare app is licensed, not sold. A purchase grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you own or control, in line with Apple's App Store or Google Play's standard end-user license terms.

The Plus bundle is a one-time purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple's App Store and Google Play under their standard refund policies — see our support page for how to request one.

4. What you can't do

5. No warranty

Fluid Shakespeare is provided "as is." We try hard to make the translations accurate and the apps stable, but we don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Don't use Fluid Shakespeare as your sole source for academic citations without verifying against a reference edition.

6. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Knovella is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Fluid Shakespeare.

7. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Knovella is registered. Disputes will be resolved in that jurisdiction's courts unless otherwise required by consumer-protection law applicable to your location.
