The web reader

Is the web reader really free?

Yes. Every play, every scene, in original Early Modern English and modern translation, free to read on the web with no signup. The app adds synced read-along audio narration — the only thing held back to a paid tier.

Why is the modern translation in only one column on my phone?

On smaller screens, two columns of text get cramped and the line-by-line alignment becomes hard to read. Mobile defaults to the modern English translation; tap the toolbar's reading-mode switch to view the original instead. On tablet and desktop, side-by-side is the default.

Can I change the theme or font size?

In any scene, the reader toolbar at the top includes a theme switcher (Default / Sepia / Slate) and a font-size control. Choices persist on this device.

The mobile app

How much does the app cost?

The Plus bundle is a one-time $12.99 purchase that unlocks all 37 plays, synced audio narration, offline reading, and removes ads. Single-play purchases are also available in the app.

Is it a subscription?

No. The Plus bundle is a one-time purchase — pay once, read forever. We don't offer subscriptions for public-domain literature.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Sign in with the same Apple ID or Google account, open the app, and tap Settings → Restore Purchases. Your Plus bundle and any single-play purchases will reappear.

Does it work offline?

Yes — once you have Plus, every play and its audio can be downloaded for offline use. No connection needed in the air, on the subway, or in a classroom without Wi-Fi.

Can my family share Plus?

On iOS, Plus supports Family Sharing. On Android, Google Play Family Library includes the bundle. Check Apple/Google's family-share help for setup.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple's App Store and Google Play under their standard refund policies. Request through reportaproblem.apple.com (iOS) or your Google Play order history (Android). We can't issue refunds directly, but both stores can.

The audio doesn't play / isn't syncing.

Try: (1) restart the app, (2) check the volume and silent switch, (3) re-download the play in Settings → Downloads. If it's still happening, email us at hello@knovella.com with your device model and iOS/Android version — we'll fix it.

Translations & text

Is the modern English translation accurate?

Yes — every line is matched to its original. Our translations preserve meaning over cleverness: where Shakespeare uses a metaphor, we keep it; where the wordplay turns on a sound that no longer exists, we explain rather than fake it. This is a translation, not a summary.

Is the original text complete and unabridged?

Yes. We use the full public-domain First Folio text, with no cuts. The simplified column runs in parallel — every line of original Shakespeare has its modern English match.

I spotted a typo or a translation that doesn't seem right.

Please tell us — corrections are genuinely welcome. Email hello@knovella.com with the play, act, scene, and line, and we'll review.

Teachers & classrooms

Can I assign Fluid Shakespeare to my class?

Yes — the web reader is free, ad-free, and signup-free, which is exactly what a homework link should be. If you'd like a printable scene-by-scene cheat sheet for any of the major plays, write to hello@knovella.com with the play name and we'll send a PDF.

Do you offer classroom packs or educator discounts?

We're piloting a teacher program in 2026. If you'd like to be on the list, email hello@knovella.com with your school and what you teach.
