Privacy Policy
We collect as little as possible. This page explains what that means in practice. This is a placeholder for the prototype — final policy will be reviewed by counsel before public launch.
The web reader
The web reader at knovella.com/shakespeare works without any signup, account, or login. We don't ask for your name, email, age, or location to read.
We use a privacy-friendly analytics tool (Plausible or Cloudflare Web Analytics) to count pageviews so we know which plays and scenes get read. These tools don't use cookies, don't track you across sites, and don't collect personal information. No advertising trackers run on the web reader.
The site stores your reading-mode preference (Original / Side-by-Side / Modern) and
theme choice in your browser's localStorage. That data stays on your device
and is never sent to us.
The mobile app
The Fluid Shakespeare app on iOS and Android collects only what's needed to make it work:
- Reading progress. Stored on your device, plus optionally synced via Apple iCloud (iOS) or Google account (Android) so you can pick up where you left off across devices.
- Anonymized usage analytics via Firebase Analytics — which screens you open, which features you use, and crash reports. No personally identifiable information is collected.
- Purchase information via Apple's App Store and Google Play. We never see your credit card or full payment details — only the receipt that says "this device owns Plus."
In regions where the app shows ads on the free tier, the ad SDK (Google AdMob) collects device-level information for ad targeting, in line with Apple's App Tracking Transparency and Android's ad ID controls. You can opt out via your device's privacy settings.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
- We don't share your reading history with advertisers, schools, or any third party.
- We don't email-market you, because we don't have your email.
Children
The app and web reader are designed for general audiences age 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us at hello@knovella.com and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws, you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because the web reader doesn't ask for personal data and the app stores reading progress on your device, there's usually nothing to delete on our side. Email hello@knovella.com with any request.
